Overview

RainbowTabs is a browser extension that helps you color-code your tabs for visual organization. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What the extension stores locally

The RainbowTabs extension stores the following data in your browser's local storage (on your device only):

  • Tab color assignments (tab ID, URL, color, label)
  • Auto-rule definitions (URL fragments, labels, colors)
  • Extension preferences (AutoGroup setting)
  • Device key for cloud sync (if you opt in)

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable cloud sync.

Cloud sync (optional)

If you create an account and connect your extension with a device key, your auto-rules are synced to our servers so they can be shared across your browsers and devices. The synced data includes:

  • Auto-rule definitions (URL fragments, labels, colors, enabled state)
  • Your email address (for account identification)

We do not sync your browsing history, tab URLs, tab contents, or any other browsing data. Only the rules you create are synced.

Third-party services

We use the following services to operate RainbowTabs:

  • Supabase — Authentication and database hosting (EU/US servers)
  • Stripe — Payment processing for Pro subscriptions (we never see or store your card details)
  • Railway — Web application hosting

What we do NOT collect

  • Browsing history or URLs you visit
  • Tab contents or page data
  • Personal files or downloads
  • Analytics or tracking data
  • Cookies from websites you visit

Data retention

Your account data and synced rules are retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (rules, device keys, subscription records) is permanently deleted within 30 days.

Your rights

You can at any time:

  • Disconnect your extension from cloud sync (Settings → Disconnect)
  • Revoke device keys from your account page
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your rules (visible in the extension popup)
